I met Liz a few years ago. Over the years I have enjoyed her friendship and she has been gracious enough to model for me on several occasions.  Months ago Liz brought Lindsay into the studio to begin the process of their wedding portraits. It has been a fun journey getting to know these two, and I was so happy that they included me in their wedding day. Here are a few from their wedding.

Another fantastic couple in the wedding lineup for next year. 2013 has flown by, and now 2014 is right around the corner. Today is 11/12/13, David's Bridal estimates more than 3,300 brides will marry today.
Next year 12/13/14 is on a Saturday...I wonder how many brides are already planning their wedding for that day?

Fun Day Friday. I LOVE MY JOB... Melissa Sheets, Real Life Photography

Today I took the morning to recharge my creative batteries. A very sweet and trusting girl agreed to come to the studio for a stylized photo-shoot this morning. I say trusting because she isn't a professional model, yet was willing to go along with whatever I asked her to do.

Heres the skinny on the session:

The scene was lit with one daylight balanced light placed overhead at half power, with one gold reflector on the floor tilted towards the backdrop.
Shot at f2.8, handheld between 1/80 and 1/125
IS0 800
After we finished I did post-processing adding layers on top of layers. I scanned in several old tin-types and created texture sets from these, which were used at different opacities to create depth and add an interesting tonal range.

The clothes from this shoot came entirely from Goodwill, with minor alterations made while shooting. The head-dress is made of dogwood branches and berries collected from my sister's yard... Thanks Sis.

Usually whenever I do a session for fun I have a hair and makeup artist on hand. But I really wanted this to be simple, so I asked Leslie to arrive with her regular makeup on... and I planned on doing her hair. (Trusting right, I am NOT a hairdresser)
