Huge storms rolled through our area last night leaving a trail of destruction. This morning after learning that Davidson Co. Schools were closed the kids and I went out to take pictures of the storm damage. I drove and my boys took the images. They were shocked by some of the houses we saw.

The angles aren't the best because I wouldn't let them get out of the car just in case there were power lines hiding under branches, but here are a few images from this morning that they captured.

This photograph was taken in front of Reeds School. Most of these images were from within 10 miles of the school.



This historic home in Tyro was one missing the left top of the house courtesy of a mammoth tree that clobbered the home.


Detour signs were everywhere. Old high 64 and New 64 were closed to traffic. Hwy 150 was closed in at least three spots, and part of main street was shut down for the first half of the day.




Early this morning when we first passed by this trampoline was across the street and had smashed into a house at least 50 feet away. By the time we came back around they had moved it back to its spot.


Under and behind this tree... there is a house.


I am sure this family wondered where their front porch went... until they looked up.


This section of Waitman road behind Reeds School had multiple trees uprooted and broken all in a row.




It must be said, through with all the thunder and lighting not all Davidson county residents were startled awake. My husband slept through it all, my children did not.
They ran downstairs screaming that aliens were invading...At least they have a good imagination.

The second time around for this sweet family. Just over a year ago I photographed their first tiny baby, and then yesterday I was blessed to have the family return. The newest addition is a joy. You can see that this little gal will have a lifetime of love.









Have a fantastic weekend readers. I have a very special bride to photograph on Saturday. Sunday the boys of my house are going to Uwharrie National Forrest to ride trails in the big orange jeep, and since I was told this is a boys only trip I will be hanging out at my studio most of the day Sunday. I wanted to share some tips for rainy day photography. Of course none of us want our cameras ruined, so if you think you may feel the urge to go out in a down pour invest in this stuff.




Tip 1.
An umbrella, and preferable someone to hold it over your head so you can keep your hands free.

Tip 2.
This little invention can save your camera. You can find them online for around $20. I like this one because of the clear panel over your settings, it really helps because you don't have to lift a flap or take the entire cover off to reset your camera.


Tip 3. Notice Textures. Look for Patterns & Reflections.

Once you have your basics you will see that shooting in the rain can be very rewarding. Colors outside are so vibrant after the rain. And if you are lucky you might catch an eery mist rising. Also look for reflective surfaces. A dull brick path or pavement becomes a slick glossy path of goodness after the rain.

Tip 4.
The lens hood has many uses. It not only used for lens flair. It’s also good for keeping rain drop away from your lens.

Tip 5.
Clear rain drops don't show up very well. There is a reason they use milk in Hollywood for rain. So if you want to capture the drops look for windows or glass, think puddles.

My house is full of antiques. Things that to the untrained eye may look like junk. When I moved into my new studio I had room to spread out and incorporate more antiques into my prop selection. My love of antiques was passed on to my boys who now love to go hunting for treasures of their own.



Because it is spring, and spring is the best time to go antiquing, I have decided to honor my love of all things old by running a special in my studio. For a limited time I will be offering silhouettes.





This special will be running until May 30th. These make a great gift for Mother's Day and for grandparents.

Yesterday I went to Reynolda and took a few shots of this sweetie pie. We couldn't get her to crack a smile, but we still had fun.

It is Thursday and the sun is out. Tonight I am heading up to Reynolda Garden's because the cherry trees are in bloom. And because I have an adorable little girl who will meet me to take pictures out there. I hope that your Thursday is shaping up to be as good as mine.

But incase it isn't here is a little inspiration to make you smile!
