Real Life Photography, Lexington... Back to basics

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Hello blog friends. Today I want to share a secret with you. Now, this isn't something that all photographers will tell you, but I feel obligated to share this trade secret.

Here it is....
You don't need an AUHHHMAZING camera to take amazing pictures.

I know, I bet you are shocked!

While bumming around town today, I snapped a few pictures with one of my older cameras. It was my very first digital camera, with the cheapest lens that I own on it.

I still love this camera and use it as a back-up to my back-up camera. It is a perfect little camera to keep in you car to capture those out of the blue moments. Which is why I was glad to have it when the picture taking bug got me today.

(I apologize for the chalky pale legs)

So to recap:

A not so great camera can still mean good shots. Just be creative, look for angles, seek out good lighting, and have fun.

Mercy me, it is Maci and Walker.

Poor Walker this photo session really wore him out.

Here are a few cute sayings about sleep:

There was never a child so lovely but his mother was glad to get him to sleep. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Anyone who thinks the art of conversation is dead ought to tell a child to go to bed. ~Robert Gallagher

Any kid will run any errand for you if you ask at bedtime. ~Red Skelton

The only thing worth stealing is a kiss from a sleeping child. ~Joe Houldsworth

No day is so bad it can't be fixed with a nap. ~Carrie Snow

I had so much fun with this group. There wasn't much time before the wedding to get to know this couple, as it was a late booking. But I was blown away when I met them. Emily and Michael planned such a beautiful event, and I was thrilled to be there with them.

They were up for anything for photos so we had a good time.

This shot makes me swoon.

Blue shoes... I am loving it!

Watch out fellas this chick is taken.

The thing about dogs... Lexington NC Photographer

Friday, May 14, 2010

Our third son Thomas will be two this fall. Recently I have been trying to let him be leash and kennel free while we are away. The entire week has passed with only one shoe being destroyed. I didn't like the shoe anymore, so I thought no big deal.
But then today I came home to find this:

So I said, "Oh Thomas, you bad boy!"
And he proceeded to lay down and pretend to be dead.

Which is when I snapped this cute shot of his feet.

I looked over at our cat Esme, although she can't speak English, I am sure she was saying... "I saw the whole thing, guilty, guilty, guilty"

Thomas when your brothers come home you are going to be in big trouble!

Have a great weekend.

These two girls were real good sports. The field just across the dirt road had been mended with manure, and boy did it stink.

I may now be addicted to the light of the setting sun. It is so soft and etheral.

Thank you Trotter's for bring in your little lady a second time. I just couldn't get enough of her cuteness in one dose.

Whew, boy have I been busy the past few days. Yesterday was here and gone, and I never even had a chance to be happy it was Friday. My sessions have included families, babies (lots of 'em) and toddlers. Here are a few of my favorites.

Have a great weekend, and Happy Mother's Day!

Sunset Smiles

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

I am so lucky to have an amazing field just across the street from my house. The sandy dirt roads are perfect for bike riding, and the vast open fields are great for flying kites and launching rockets. We have spent countless hours playing and looking for arrowheads, I wouldn't love my house half as much if we didn't have such an amazing wild area across the road.

So tonight I invited a friend to come over for some sunset pictures. We had a blast. My oldest son helped with some modeling advice and it was a great session.

Saturday I spent the afternoon with a really fun set of sisters. It really made me miss hanging out with my own sister.
